Problems Listening?
If you've got problems listening to either our live broadcasts or Listen Again through our Connect Player or live streams, this page might just help you get it running.
1) Before Starting: Minimum System Requirements
There are two areas which will cause you the most problems:
1. Make sure your browser is updated to a new version. A list of known compatible browsers is given below.
2. Make sure you have the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. For Windows, Linux, Solaris or Macintosh operating systems, you can get Java here. You will require version 1.4.2 or higher of the Java Runtime Environment. Note that Apple only provide Java 5 updates for Mac OS X 10.4 or higher - you should still be able to obtain Java 1.4.2 for older versions of OS X.
Our player has been tested on Windows 2000, XP and Vista, and Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later, running Internet Explorer 6.x and 7, Firefox 2.0.0.x, Netscape 8.x, Camino ? and Safari 1.3.2. In addition, the tests have been conducted with Java Runtime Environment versions 1.4.2, 5 (1.5) and 6 (1.6).
2) I click the Listen Now button, but nothing happens or an error occurs
Make sure your browser is the latest version and has scripting (JavaScript) enabled. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Options > Security tab > Custom Level button and ensure the Active Scripting option is Enabled. In Firefox, choose Tools > Options > Content tab and ensure both the Enable JavaScript and Enable Java boxes are ticked. Click OK to save those changes.
After making changes, it may be necessary to restart your browser for the changes to take effect.
3) The Connect Player opens but nothing is playing!
Firstly, ensure your computer volume and speakers are turned up and off mute (you'd be surprised how many people make this mistake). If you still cannot hear any sound, make sure you meet the minimum requirements given above and that you have JavaScript and Java enabled as described in question (2). If an error message appears, please note that message and contact us (see below).
4) I open the Listen Again but nothing's playing
Check that you meet all the Minimum Requirements given above, and check the previous paragraph.
Note that we only hold an archive of about the last 40 days of shows. Shows older than 40 days do not exist and therefore will not play.
5) The Player opens and starts playing, but I can't change the volume or mute
If the volume slider is missing, or the slider or mute button do not work, ensure JavaScript is enabled as described in (2) above. Also ensure your browser is latest version.
6) The Player is working but skips, jitters and repeats segments of audio
The Connect Player operates within your browser and is dependent on your browser's and computer's stability. In addition, Java applets (on which technology the Connect Player is based) are not given high priority in the browser, and therefore may suffer occasionally. It is a known bug that the audio playback from the Connect Player may jitter, skip or repeat segments of audio. This should last only momentarily (no more than 5-10s), but if the problem persists, close all browser windows completely and restart your browser.
7) I'm not using the Connect Player, but trying to connect to your streams on port 8000 and I'm not successful; why?
The normal reason for not being able to access content on port 8000 is an organisational firewall which is configured to block this non-standard port. For your convenience we have also provided our live streams on the standard HTTP port (80):
HI quality (Ogg Vorbis): http://stream.cur1350.co.uk/cur.ogg.m3u
LO quality (MP3): http://stream.cur1350.co.uk/curlo
We regret that due to licensing issues, we can only provide our Listen Again shows through the Connect Player.
If this hasn't solved your problem, please contact our Engineering team who will try to help you.
