University Challenge contestant told off by police. Museum makes 'most important acquisition in decades'.
A member of the King's College University Challenge team has been spoken to by police after wearing an RAF-style jacket, complete with war medals, on the quiz show. James Archer, a second-year social and political sciences student, sparked complaints from viewers that he was wearing the jacket and medals illegally and impersonating an officer. A spokesman from the Cambridgeshire police said that they "advised the student concerned that it could be an offence to wear medals to which he was not entitled".
Local music fans have welcomed the news that popular live music venue The Barfly at The Graduate, which closed this summer, may reopen in the New Year. The venue was well-known for hosting up-and-coming bands.
Cambridge University's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is today celebrating the addition of a unique piece of Maori art to its collection. The 8 metre tall wooden flagpole is the oldest of its kind and the only example outside of New Zealand. The museum's director, Professor Nick Thomas, explains why access to objects like this one is essential for students:
"I think it's important to see objects in the flesh, as it were, because their aesthetic, their cultural qualities, their physical presence, is really something that, you know, has to be experienced. It's not something that you can quite get through a photo."
