Cambridge's 800th anniversary launched in style.
Last Saturday saw the beginning of a three-day launch of Cambridge University’s 800th Anniversary year. A spectacular light show with images portraying Cambridge’s history was projected on to the Senate House and Old Schools together with word-wide bell ringing event. Henriette Guyard, a third year anthropologist comments:
"I think that the light show at the Senate House was quite nice, quite a lot of people were watching it and it’s nice to see the old Cambridge builidings look at them a bit more .. it was very nice."
Cambridge has been named UK’s best university for research by a seven-year government study. The report classified 71% of Cambridge research as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
An article by a Cambridge professor revealed that prescription only drugs like Modafinil are increasingly popular among sportsmen, students and academics due to relatively mild side effects and the effectiveness in improving concentration. This has prompted a debate whether the drug should be available over the counter. A fourth year student at Trinity Hall comments:
"It is just that as an incentive, if these drugs were made legal and available in Boots but kids just to go out and party the whole time during the night, I think it could be counted adversely to their health."
