Two Cambridge students are soon to experience the taste of fame with the airing of a new reality TV show, ‘Beauty and the Geek’.

CUR1350 presenter and Downing student Ed Bolton and Philip Scott, a computer scientist from Jesus, spent two weeks in a castle in Scotland hoping to win a share of a £40,000 prize. The seven ‘geeks’ on the show teamed up with actresses, models and members of the FHM High Street Honeys to master a series of tasks, which included dancing lessons, massage and, for the ‘beauties’, lessons in rocket building and biology.

Despite these demands, for Ed Bolton, the hardest part was the elimination process at the end of every show: ‘The tension would always be building. It didn’t help that the other couples got to watch it all from the gallery above…’

Pitched by the production company September Films as a new kind of reality TV that moves away from the confrontational nature of shows such as ‘Big Brother’, contestants described the show as a ‘heartwarming series’ that was ‘more about meaningful relationships than about a few insecure girls hitting it off with love-starved guys’.

But did romance blossom for the Cambridge contestants? Ed remains coy: ‘You’ll just have to wait for the show to find out…’

On these pages, you'll be able to find out more about the show, find out more about Ed, one of the contestants and CUR1350's very own programme controller

Beauty and the Geek airs on Channel 4 each Friday before being repeated on T4 over Saturday lunchtime
